In Kansas and Missouri, the statutes allow the employer/insurer to choose the medical providers.

In both Kansas and Missouri, the employer, or their insurance company, will send you to a clinic for the initial visit. That doctor will make recommendations, including potential referrals. The insurer will then choose the follow up physicians/clinics based on their chosen doctor’s referrals and recommendations. Unfortunately, you cannot choose your doctor. If the work comp carrier does not authorize the treatment in advance, they do not have to pay for it. Kansas does provide up to $500 for unauthorized care, though.
